Architectural Dome at IDBI Bank in Nave Mumbia

08/03/2018 – Kansas City, MO – CST is proud to announce the completion of the dynamic IDBI Bank project in Navi Mumbai.

“CST is very honored to have worked with the Hiten Sethi team in the development of the architecturally significant project and even more pleased with the results,” says Grace Ferretti, Global Business Development Manager – Architectural Division.

One of the largest commercial banks in India, IDBI Bank (formerly known as the Industrial Development Bank of India) is a governmentally owned financial service company. In 1964, IDBI was constituted under the Industrial Development Bank of India Act as a Development Financial Institution. IDBI Bank is a Universal Bank with its operations driven by a cutting-edge core banking IT platform. The Bank offers personalized banking and financial solutions to its clients in the retail and corporate banking arena through its large network of branches and ATMs, spread across India.

Hiten Sethi was tasked with designing a signature structure in the satellite township of Belapur, Navi Mumbai, for the Annex Building for IDBI Bank. Two glazed domes graced the front and the interior courtyard of the facility creating identity.

The architect and building engineers were challenged by having to adapt an innovative dome system and mount the structure in a vertical application to create a functional multi-story atrium. The structural challenge of the design was rotating the structure and supporting it vertically eradicating the dome’s natural tension ring. Another key design challenge was to create a geometric grid that aligned the triangulated grid pattern with the level floor slabs and to maximize the structural efficiency by minimizing the quantity of anchors at the interface of the building face.

CST provided two domes that consist of all-aluminum I-beam struts with snap cap inserts to give the structure a sleek, smooth appearance. Because of aluminum’s sustainability and resistance to corrosion, the domes were left unpainted in its natural mill finish state. On the interior and exterior dome, glazing was installed to create a climate-controlled atrium that spans multiple floors. The IDBI Bank glazed dome façade was a collaboration between CST and their local joint venture partner, Temcor Rollwell. Construction was provided by Temcor Rollwell under the direction of CST’s Construction supervision.
